Introducing “Still Around”

We’re super excited to send our latest release “Still Around” out into the world. It’s been a long time coming.

"Still Around" cover

This is our most polished release in terms of production by far. When Nate asked what I did differently this time around after hearing the first mixes. I told him everything was exactly the same other than better mics, a better room, better mixing, better plugins, and better performances. The one thing we didn’t touch were the sandwiches. We didn’t dare mess with where we bought our sandwiches.

We recorded the core tracks for the first six songs at Moondog Studios in Alameda, CA during a single day (thanks MQ!). The bits that we couldn’t finish were overdubbed in Dawn’s basement and my garage. I’d been building microphones in my garage and this project was my first chance to use them. There’s only a single instrument on a single song that was recorded with a mic that I didn’t build in fact.

The final song, “Gasoline” was a late add at the request of our friend Matt. He’s been a loyal supporter of the band from the beginning so it was a hard request to turn down. We scrambled to pull it together at the last minute and I’m glad we did.

Other band news

You’ve probably noticed that the name of the band has changed to The Sloe Sippers on the latest release. We’ll be updating this site and Facebook and whatnot as time allows. Despite the name change, Nate has not been fired (yet). However, we have had a lineup change in the band. I’ve recently moved to Austin, TX so I won’t be a full-time band member until I can convince everybody else to move here. I’m being replaced by Chris Bogner on banjo to fill out the trio. I don’t intend to be a total stranger though. I get back to The Bay Area fairly often so I’ll likely be popping up at a show here and there.

Thanks for your support and we hope you enjoy the new release! Links follow:
